Who is eligible for funding assistance?

Families under Stollery Children’s Hospital’s ASSIST palliative care program.

What expenses are covered by the fund?

Essential needs, supports, and wishes that are important to the child & family’s quality of life that are not covered by insurance, charities, or any other means, are evaluated on a case-by-case basis by our 6-member Board, representing multiple disciplines and non-medical community members.

There is currently no maximum dollar amount per request, but the higher the dollar amount, the more scrutiny is given to the request, balancing the importance to the family with keeping enough of our funds available to other families. There must be a vendor who can invoice us for the expense(s), or receipt(s) for reimbursements — unfortunately, we are unable to provide cash.

How can I apply for assistance?

Email themedicalfund@gmail.com with a description of the expense(s) and reasons why funding it would be important to the child & family in their challenging times.

Families are welcome to re-apply with adjustments to their application should their initial request be denied.

Approval decisions will typically be made within a week. Urgent expedited decisions can sometimes be made within several hours, depending on the specific situation.

Can donations be made online?

Yes, Interac etransfers are accepted via themedicalfund@gmail.com.

Please note that we are a non-profit organization rather than a registered charity, so no tax receipt can be provided for any donations.
